Entre records de chaleur inédits, sécheresse persistante et déficit pluviométrique alarmant, l’année 2023 a marqué un tournant climatique sans précédent au Maroc. Le récent rapport de la Direction Générale de la Météorologie (DGM) a fourni davantage de détails sur cette situation sans précédent.
La DGM a dévoilé ce mercredi son rapport annuel sur l’Etat du Climat au Maroc pour l’année 2023. Ce document offre une analyse approfondie de « l’évolution des principaux indicateurs climatiques », tout en mettant en lumière les phénomènes météorologiques et climatiques extrêmes, dont les répercussions socio-économiques qui s’avèrent particulièrement marquantes.
Selon le rapport, L’année 2023 s’est imposée comme la plus torride jamais consignée, tant à l’échelle mondiale qu’au Maroc. La DGM a en ce sens évoqué l’Organisation Météorologique Mondiale (OMM) qui a précisé que l’anomalie de la température moyenne mondiale a frôlé le seuil symbolique de 1,5 °C.
En effet, les données climatiques ont révélé un réchauffement terrestre d’environ 1,45 °C par rapport à l’ère préindustrielle (1850-1900). L’OMM a également confirmé que les neuf dernières années se distinguent comme les plus chaudes jamais enregistrées, soulignant une tendance inquiétante vers une hausse continue des températures.
De plus, les mois de mars, avril, août et octobre se sont distingués comme étant les plus chauds jamais enregistrés au Royaume. Au cours de l’année, les températures moyennes quotidiennes ont dépassé les normales saisonnières durant 279 jours, ce qui représente 79 % des jours. Par ailleurs, un record national absolu a été établi avec une température maximale quotidienne atteignant 50,4 °C à Agadir le vendredi 11 août 2023, marquant ainsi la première fois que le seuil symbolique des 50 °C a été franchi au Maroc, a fait savoir le document.
Quant à la pluviométrie, la DGM a considéré l’année 2023 comme la plus aride enregistrée depuis au moins 80 ans, affichant un déficit pluviométrique d’environ 48 %. De surcroît, cette année marque la cinquième consécutive de sécheresse au Maroc, établissant ainsi la plus longue période d’années sèches de l’histoire contemporaine du pays. Au cours de ces cinq dernières années, un déficit pluviométrique moyen d’environ 35 % a été constaté, qualifié de « déficit extrême ».
La campagne agricole 2022-2023 a été profondément affectée par une pénurie significative de précipitations, avec un déficit atteignant 29,22% par rapport aux normes habituelles, accompagné d’une répartition des pluies particulièrement inégale. Cette situation a exacerbé les conséquences de cinq années consécutives de sécheresse. Le retard et la mauvaise distribution des pluies entre septembre et novembre ont compromis la plantation des cultures d’automne, tout en dégradant les conditions des parcours. En outre, cette situation délicate a été exacerbée par une élévation inhabituelle des températures.
En 2023, le Maroc a été le théâtre de plus de vingt événements climatiques majeurs, comme en témoignent les bulletins d’alerte émis tout au long de l’année. Parmi ces manifestations extrêmes, la DGM a cité les violentes averses orageuses, les vagues de chaleur accablantes, ainsi que les précipitations neigeuses significatives accompagnées de vents puissants.
Un des phénomènes les plus marquants fut la vague de chaleur printanière qui a frappé une large portion du sud-ouest de l’Europe et du nord de l’Afrique à la fin d’avril, entraînant une surenchère des températures qui a suscité l’inquiétude.
Néanmoins, en dépit d’un climat général de sécheresse, certaines régions du Haut-Atlas et de l’Anti-Atlas ont connu des chutes de neige exceptionnelles en février, avec des accumulations atteignant jusqu’à deux mètres. Cette situation climatique sans précédent a placé certaines provinces de ces zones sous assistance d’urgence, nécessitant l’intervention rapide des autorités pour rétablir l’accès et fournir le soutien nécessaire aux populations touchées par ces intempéries.
