RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran, stressing the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the free flow of navigation without restrictions.In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the announcement made by US President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the agreement.The Kingdom commended Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the deal, highlighting the constructive role of its leadership — particularly Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir — in advancing the outcome.The statement affirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at reaching a lasting agreement that ensures regional security and stability.It also addressed the need to resolve longstanding issues that have contributed to instability in the region over past decades.The ministry underscored the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982), without restrictions.Saudi Arabia expressed hope that the ceasefire would serve as a pathway toward comprehensive and sustainable de-escalation, strengthening regional security and ending actions that undermine the sovereignty and stability of countries in the region.
