RIYADH — Saudi Arabia welcomes the agreement reached between the US and Iran to end military operations and begin detailed negotiations over a 60-day period. In a statement released on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom expressed its welcome of the United States’ and Iran’s aims of reaching a lasting agreement. The Kingdom also commended the mediation efforts undertaken by both Pakistan and Qatar, as well as the positive engagement by the US and Iran in those efforts, which led to the conclusion of this agreement. Furthermore, the statemen emphasized the importance of restoring the security of navigation and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to the conditions that existed before February 28. It also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s aspiration that peace be achieved in a manner that enhances the security of the region and the world. In conclusion, the statement expressed the Kingdom’s belief that reaching a permanent agreement should take into account the security interests of the region's countries and uphold the principle of respect for states' internal affairs.
