Samsung has been inexcusably late with the release of the One UI 7.0 update. Usually, the company releases a major new One UI (and Android) update to its high-end devices before the end of the year. But that didn't happen with One UI 7.0, and Samsung has finally explained the reason for the delay.
In an interview published on Samsung Indonesia's website, Sally, Samsung MX's EVP and Head of the Framework R&D Team said the company wanted to make a big breakthrough with One UI 7.0. The South Korean firm was reportedly planning for One UI 7.0 for the past 2-3 years.
She said, “Meanwhile, for One UI 7, we took a slightly different approach. Usually, UI updates are done every year. However, for this version, we wanted to make a big breakthrough, which required careful planning since two to three years before the project started. We wanted to create something more impactful, and this longer preparation time allowed us to make significant improvements.”
It was revealed through this interview that Samsung wanted every feature, even the smaller ones, to be tailored to users' needs and offer an optimal experience.
The company also worked with Google since the beginning so that AI features work across Google and Samsung apps seamlessly. This meant developing several new APIs and SDKs alongside platform (operating system/One UI) development, and that took a lot of time and effort from Samsung.

In a way, Samsung has hinted that One UI 7.0 has been delayed (compared to previous One UI versions) because it is a major update featuring a significant UI redesign and several new AI features. And it took considerable time and effort to develop those things.
The Galaxy S24 will get the fourth One UI 7.0 beta update next week. A few days later, the company could release the stable One UI 7.0 update to the Galaxy S24 series and older devices. Right now, stable One UI 7.0 is only available on the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy F06.
