As expected, Samsung is backing its latest Galaxy A5x and Galaxy A3x series phones with a fantastic software update policy. The Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 will get six major Android OS upgrades. They will also get security updates for six years.
In early 2024, Samsung bumped the number of major OS upgrades for its flagships from four to seven, and in the latter half of the year, it announced that non-flagship devices will be eligible for six years of both OS and security updates.
The Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 ship with Android 15 (One UI 7) out of the box, so their final Android update will be to version 21. The same is true for the Galaxy A26, which Samsung launched alongside the A36 and A56. The enterprise edition of the Galaxy A56 will get updates for seven years.
No other brand is offering this kind of software update guarantee for their devices. Well, except Google – the maker of the Android operating system is promising seven years of updates to every Pixel phone. Samsung is only offers seven years of updates to enterprise editions of mid-range smartphones and tablets.
We just hope Samsung will not compromise on the speed at which it delivers major Android and One UI updates. The company is taking an almost obscenely long time to bring One UI 7 to the masses, but we have our fingers crossed that this is just a one-time thing.
