Samsung has released a new software update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra in Europe and select markets, such as India, in other regions. This update brings the January 2025 security patch to 2023's flagship Galaxy S lineup, and you can identify it by the build number S91*BXXS7CXL2.
Samsung has not bundled any other changes in this update, which isn't the least bit surprising as the Android 15/One UI 7.0 update is on the horizon. One UI 7 is expected to start rolling out to the Galaxy S23 and other eligible Galaxy S handsets in February and will bring a ton of new features in addition to a substantial UI overhaul.
The January 2025 security patch addresses several critical and high-risk vulnerabilities in the core Android operating system and 22 vulnerabilities that affect only Samsung Galaxy devices. It also includes fixes for vulnerabilities affecting devices with MediaTek chipsets running Android versions 12, 13, and 14.
Your phone will notify you when the latest update is available, and you can click that notification to download and install the update. The notification may take some time to arrive, so if you don't want to wait, you can manually check for the update from the phone's Settings » Software update menu. You can also download Galaxy S23 firmware from the SamMobile database.
