For the first time, a Samsung phone has defeated an iPhone in a speed test. The Galaxy S25 Ultra smoked the iPhone 16 Pro Max in a speed test performed by popular YouTuber PhoneBuff. In fact, it became the fastest smartphone ever in this test.
In a video published by YouTuber PhoneBuff, a robotic arm was programmed to open a series of apps and games and then reopen those apps in the reverse order. The Galaxy S25 Ultra completed both rounds in 3 minutes and seven seconds, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max took 3 minutes and 21 seconds.
You can watch the speed test comparison in the video below.
The same speed test was also performed with the OnePlus 13, and it took 3 minutes and 12 seconds to complete. That makes the Galaxy S25 Ultra the fastest smartphone in the world right now. This is despite the Galaxy S25 Ultra featuring just 12GB RAM compared to 16GB RAM on the OnePlus 13.
Apple's in-house chips have always had extremely fast CPU performance. Apple's iPhone chips defeated rivals from MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Samsung. However, over the past couple of years, Qualcomm has been doing some fantastic work to close in on Apple but never quite managed to defeat Apple in CPU performance. In GPU performance, though, flagship chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm have been defeating iPhone chips over the past couple of years.
Late last year, Qualcomm released its first smartphone chip—Snapdragon 8 Elite—that used its Nuvia CPU architecture. It brought a once-in-a-generation jump in CPU performance, particularly in single-core tasks. It helped Android phones like the OnePlus 13 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra to defeat Apple's flagship iPhone.
Hopefully, Qualcomm will be able to hold its ground against Apple in the future.
