For the last couple of years, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been working hard on cutting down the thickness of smartphones with book-style foldable displays. People too are demanding the same thing. That has put an immense pressure on Samsung to reduce the thickness of its next phone with a book-style foldable screen, the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Well, the South Korean tech giant seems to have made a serious effort at cutting down thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with rumours suggesting that it will be 9mm thin, which is a massive, 3.1mm reduction in waistline compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Unfortunately, despite that, it won’t even be the second thinnest book-style foldable phone.
In February 2025, Oppo launched the Find N5, a book-style foldable phone with a thickness of 8.9mm. With that, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 never stood a chance to take the crown for the thinnest phone in the segment. However, it was at least expected to be the second slimmest device among its rivals. Unfortunately, even that won’t be the case, and the credit for that goes to Honor’s upcoming Magic V5.
Honor is going to launch its next flagship phone with a book-style foldable display, the Honor Magic V5, very soon, and the brand has now teased that the phone will be just 8.5mm thick. That’s a significant, 0.5mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which will make the South Korean tech giant’s upcoming book-style phone the third thinnest in the segment. Although that’s not bad, it isn’t something Samsung can brag about.
That being said, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, even with its 9mm waistline, is a very thin device, thin enough to satisfy most people. For comparison, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is only 0.8mm thinner. On the positive side, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will probably be the only device among its competitors to offer dust resistance, which is far more useful than a body that is only a few millimetre thinner.
If you are looking forward to purchasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7, you should know that Samsung has started taking reservations for the phone, which will fetch you a ton of benefits. Click here to reserve the device and avail the offers.
