Most of Google's announcements during the Google I/O 2025 conference were related to AI and Gemini. While the new-age AI assistant has been available for over a year, its design is still not optimized for large-screen devices like foldable phones and tablets. Google seems to be working on fixing that shortcoming.
Digging through the latest beta version (16.20.48.sa.arm64 beta) of the Google app, Android Authority found out that Google has been developing an optimized UI for large-screen Android devices like foldable phones and tablets. The new design has a multi-column layout. The left-side pane displays previous chats with Gemini, along with other options such as Gems and Search.
As you can see the images above, the right-side pane displays the currently selected chat thread with Gemini. It looks exactly like Gemini's user interface on the web. And it would take advantage of bigger screens on Android devices like the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
This new UI design is currently not live, and there is no clear answer as to when Google is planning to bring it to actual users. The company seems to be working behind the scenes on this new design, and it might be released by the time Android 16 has been released in the stable form in the next couple of months.
