If you are using a beta version of Google Messages on your Samsung smartphone and the app is crashing every time you open it, you aren’t alone and there's a fix available for the problem.
According to 9To5Google, since Thursday, some Samsung (and Google) smartphone users have been reporting that Google Messages on their phone is crashing a few seconds after opening it.
More specifically, when you open the app and it shows the homepage (the list of chats), it closes after a few seconds. While the app is crashing, people are able to reply to messages via their notifications and access chat head/bubble. The issue is happening with the latest beta version of Google Messages (version 20250805_00_RC00), which was released yesterday, on Galaxy and Pixel smartphones running Android 16.
While clearing the cache doesn’t help, some people were able to solve the issue by uninstalling the update. Reinstalling the update didn’t bring back the problem either. Note that uninstalling and reinstalling the update doesn’t delete your messages. So, you can go ahead and troubleshoot. We hope Google fixes the issue quickly. If it doesn't, you can always fall back to the stable version or switch to Samsung Messages.
