Samsung has yet again failed to stop images of an upcoming phone from leaking online before the official announcement. Samsung teased the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition a few days back and said it would be unveiled on October 21, but someone with access to the device has published pictures of it on X/Twitter.
You would be forgiven for thinking that this doesn't look any different from the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6, but the fact that the images shared by the source on Twitter were struck with a copyright claim is all the proof we need this is the real deal. It's unlikely to be a dummy unit either, as the unveiling is just too close for that to be the case.
While there's no picture of the front side of the phone, rumors say the Fold 6 Special Edition has a 6.5-inch cover display, and the picture of the back of the phone does suggest that it's wider than the regular Fold 6 (which has a 6.3-inch display). Samsung is finally addressing complaints about the Galaxy Z Fold lineup featuring narrow and cramped cover screens, though it may put off those who prefer their foldable phones to be as compact as possible.
The device in these pictures is the Chinese version. In China, it will be sold as the W25, but everywhere else we expect it to be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition. And by everywhere else, we mean Korea. China and South Korea are the only markets getting this special edition, at least in the beginning.
Not that fans in other countries will be too disappointed for missing out. The Fold 6 Special Edition is expected to bring very few upgrades. The screens will be larger, the main camera has been bumped up to a 200-megapixel unit, and, well, that's about it for the confirmed features. There could be other changes, like a larger battery, but we will have to wait for the official announcement to get all the details.
