After releasing two developer previews, Google introduced the first beta version of Android 16 last month. While these releases have revealed many new features the new OS brings, the company hasn’t taken the stage to introduce Android 16 to the public.
Usually, Google talks about a new version of the OS in detail and introduces it to the public at the Google I/O event, and it has just announced the date for the Google I/O event for this year. It is going to be on 20 and 21 May 2025. Here are more details.
In a blog post, Google announced that it will hold the Google I/O event for this year on 20 May 2025 and 21 May 2025 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mount View. As you might expect, it will stream the event live on YouTube.
Google says that at the event, it will talk about “Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android, and more.” While the brand didn’t mention Android 16 outright, taking into account past events, it will most likely detail the new OS at Google I/O 2025.
Samsung will call its customization for Android 16 as One UI 8.0 but there are no details available about it yet. Samsung fans may hesitate to even dream about it as the company hasn’t even rolled out Android 15-based One UI 7.0 to the majority of eligible Galaxy phones and tablets.

Of course, we might also hear a lot about artificial intelligence, and more specifically, about Gemini, at Google I/O 2025. In the blog post, the company says “We’ll start day one with keynotes, followed by sessions, demos, networking opportunities and more continuing on day two.”
