Samsung has unveiled its next-generation ultra-premium laptop, the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra. Along with the usual specs bump for better performance, the new laptop brings some other improvements, including a touchscreen display, improved power efficiency, improved cooling, and faster charging.
The South Korean firm has also added a built-in video editor and improved existing Galaxy ecosystem apps.
The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra is powered by the 14th Gen. Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU, up to 64GB LPDDR5x RAM, and up to 2TB of PCIe NVMe SSD. For graphics processing, the laptop has a dedicated GPU, just like its predecessor, which was launched earlier this year. The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU with 6GB GDDR6 VRAM or an Nvidia GeForce RTX 470 laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR6 VRAM, depending on the variant you choose. There is an additional SSD slot for storage expansion.
The entry-level variant of the laptop features a 14th Gen. Intel Corte Ultra 7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD.
Intel's new processors offer faster performance and a built-in NPU for faster on-device AI processing. It includes more than 100 ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) that offer AI capabilities, including the ability to create images in seconds with simple text prompts. This feature is backed by Nvidia Studio and RTX-optimized Stable Diffusion. The new processor also features improved efficiency. Samsung's new cooling system features an 11% wider vapor chamber system and a dual fan with a new uneven blade spacing design. Samsung also claims that its new flagship laptop has Intel Evo Edition certification.
Samsung's new laptop features a gorgeous 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with QHD resolution (2,880 x 1,800 pixels), a 16:10 aspect ratio to fit more content, 400 nits of brightness, a 120% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate. Moreover, it's a touchscreen panel, an upgrade over the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. The screen has Samsung's Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and improve content visibility.
The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra has a 2MP webcam, studio-quality microphones with AI-based noise canceling, AKG-tuned quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Bluetooth LE Audio. The South Korean firm claims that it has improved the onboard speakers, and they now offer rich bass and high octaves. When paired with the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, the laptop offers lower latency, so even gaming is possible while using those wireless earbuds. The quad-speaker system has two 5W woofers and two 2W speakers.
The full-sized built-in keyboard is backlit, while the Windows Precision trackpad is extremely large. The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra has two Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) ports, one USB 3.2 Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port (up to 8K 60Hz or 5K 120Hz), a headphone + mic combo audio jack, and a fingerprint reader. It has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. It is powered by a 76WHr battery and supports up to 140W USB PD charging with the bundled charger. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra can charge up to 55% in just 30 minutes with the bundled 140W USB Type-C charger.
The laptop comes in just one color: Moonstone Grey. Samsung says it has used more recycled materials (aluminum, glass, and plastic) to make its new flagship laptop. Samsung has also added a discrete Samsung Knox security chip for improved data security. It builds upon security technologies offered by Intel and Microsoft.
The laptop runs Windows 11 Home and comes pre-installed with Samsung Studio, a new video editor that is also available on the company's phones and tablets. The built-in Samsung Gallery app now features Photo Remaster to edit images, erase shadows, and remove reflections. The Second Screen feature lets you use a Galaxy Tab series device as a second screen for the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra.
The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra will be available in South Korea starting January 2, 2024. It has a starting price of KRW 3.36 million (around $2,595), while the highest-end variant is priced at KRW 5.09 million (around $3,932).
The laptop will be gradually launched in more countries. The company hasn't announced the global pricing for the laptop, and we expect that information to be revealed closer to the launch.
