Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, is regarded as the best SoC for Android smartphones available at the moment. As such, most brands will use it for their flagship smartphones that they will launch this year. That includes Samsung, Its upcoming Galaxy S25 series will use this processor.
However, not everyone needs so much processing power in a high-end smartphone, which means that brands can launch a device with a slightly less powerful chipset and offer it with a lower price tag. Well, as it turns out, for such scenarios, Qualcomm is working on a toned-down and more affordable version of its current flagship SoC, and it is called the Snapdragon 8s Elite.
According to a popular tipster from China, Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is developing Snapdragon 8s Elite. The tipster claims that it has one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.21GHz, three Cortex-A720 core clocked at 3.01GHz, two power-efficiency cores clocked at 2.8GHz, and two power-efficiency cores clocked at 2.02Gz. They also say that the SoC has the Adreno 825 GPU.
On Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon 8s Elite scored 1,967 points in the single-core test and 5,827 points in the multi-core test. However, it is still in the testing phase. The final version of the SoC might perform differently. The tipster points out that in the same test, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 2,200 points in the single-core test and 7,000 points in the multi-core test.
That means the Snapdragon 8s Elite is slightly less powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Usually, brands use the ’s’ suffix to indicate a newer or better version of a product. However, Qualcomm does the opposite. It uses the ’s’ suffix for a toned-down or more affordable version of its products. Reportedly. iQOO and Xiaomi are already developing phones with this SoC.

Samsung could use this chipset for the Fan Edition of the Galaxy S25, which will help it to offer the phone at a lower price than the device it is based on. Speaking of which, the South Korean tech giant is going to launch the Galaxy S25 series on 22 January 2025. You can pre-reserve the lineup by clicking on the button below.
