Although Samsung downgraded the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen by removing Bluetooth and axing Air Actions, the company appears to be planning a long-awaited upgrade for the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra S Pen.
According to rumors, Samsung is developing a new S Pen and/or digitizer technology. For now, most technical details are missing, but X leaker @PandaFlashPro suggests that this new S Pen upgrade may allow Galaxy S26 Ultra owners to use magnetic accessories without interference.
Magnetic accessory support has been an issue for Galaxy Note and Galaxy S Ultra users for over a decade. The issue with using magnetic accessories, such as cases, is that the magnetic field can interfere with the S Pen digitizer. This can cause reduced S Pen sensitivity, inconsistent input, and dead zones on the screen.
Whatever new S Pen technology Samsung will use next may finally address this shortcoming. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, of which we know a few things already, could be fully compatible with magnetic accessories without ruining the S Pen experience.
In theory, the upgraded S Pen could even allow Samsung to finally fit a magnetic ring for Qi2 charging and accessories inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, whether or not the company will go the extra mile is another matter. Time will tell.
Lastly, this new S Pen/digitizer technology might debut earlier than 2026. First, it could be employed by the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which Samsung will unveil next month at Galaxy Unpacked in New York City. Here's all we know about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 so far.
However, since the Fold 7 shouldn't have an embedded S Pen slot, most people probably won't care as much about this aspect. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, on the other hand, could bring some long-awaited quality-of-life upgrades to the series thanks to this new S Pen technology.
