Samsung has retained its crown in India's tablet market. It was, once again, the biggest tablet brand in India in 2024. However, its sales shrank in the fourth quarter of the year compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.
According to the latest numbers from market analysis firm IDC, Samsung sold 321,000 tablets in India in Q4 2024. The South Korean firm captured a 35.5% share of the Indian tablet market. However, its sales shrank by 26.8% compared to Q4 2023 when the company sold close to half a million (439,000) tablets.
The company launched the Galaxy Tab S10+ and the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra in Q4 2024.
Apple was the second-biggest tablet maker in India. It sold 164,000 iPads and captured an 18.1% market share in Q4 2024, a massive 44.4% increase compared to Q4 2023.
Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Acer ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Lenovo's market share was 12.5% after its sales dropped by 21.5%. Xiaomi's sales grew by 2.3%, and its market share reached 10.5%. Acer captured an 8.9% share of the market, but its sales dropped by 35.5% compared to Q4 2023.
When you look at the picture of the entire year, Samsung shines. It shipped close to 2.5 million (2,443,000) Galaxy Tab devices in 2024, a massive 54% jump compared to 2023. Its market share jumped from 39.5% in 2023 to 42.6% in 2024.
The company had a 51.1% market share in the commercial tablet segment (education, industries, retail stores, etc.) and a 32.1% share in the consumer market.
Acer ranked second with over 1 million tablet sales in 2024, an explosive growth of 265.8% compared to 2023. Apple ranked third with an 11% market share, while Lenovo (9%) and Xiaomi (9%) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Xiaomi's tablet shipments doubled in India compared to 2023.
The tablet market in India is expected to maintain momentum this year, driven by the acceptance of tablets in the education, enterprise, hospitality, and retail segments. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Tab S10 FE and the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ before the end of this year.
