Samsung's Unpacked event in San Jose brought us a couple of interesting surprise in addition to the new Galaxy S25 series. The company confirmed the Galaxy S25 Edge, previously known as the Galaxy S25 Slim, a fourth variant in the new lineup that will be launched later this year.
While the company didn't talk about this unique device, only mentioning it in passing as “multi-fold”, it did put up a confirmation on the big screen when referring to its plans for the future. There it was, an image that made it clear as day that Samsung has a tri-folding Galaxy smartphone in the pipeline.
The reference to the tri-folding phone was made as the company spoke about its XR plans, including the new headset codenamed Project Moohan that it's been building with Google and Qualcomm. Samsung has also revealed its plan to develop smart glasses.
There have been many rumors that Samsung is going to expand its foldable lineup with a tri-folding phone. It was inevitable after Huawei brought one to the market. Recent rumors have suggested that we may see this device being launched as early as this year, alongside the expected refresh for the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip devices.
Samsung didn't provide any additional details about this tri-folding phone, but if rumors are believed, it may be launched in Q3 2025. The device's tri-folding display could measure between 9.9 to 10-inches when unfolded, bringing it squarely into tablet territory.
Foldable fans certainly have much to be excited about this year. Hopefully, Samsung will reveal more details about this device in the near future.
