The Samsung News app was first launched in the United States back in 2023. This wasn't exactly a new app, it was a new take on Samsung Free, which itself a transformation of Samsung Daily done back in 2020.
The app delivers personalized news from Samsung's publishing partners, which including leading local and international news organizations, for free. The app was later expanded to Canada and has now finally made its way to the United Kingdom.
Samsung News provides free access to news from top publishers in the UK, including Sky News, Sky Sports, Daily Mail, The Standard, The Independent, Mirror, Business Insider, Reuters, and more alongside local news outlets. While some of these publications require subscriptions to access their content, Samsung News users get it without any paywalls.
Users can tailor their feeds to find news on their chosen topics. Suggested articles will then be curated based on users' reading habits. The app also provides Morning & Evening briefings with curated stories to keep users up to do late with the latest happenings at the beginning and the end of the day.
An editorial committee staffed by experienced editors will ensure clarity and balance across publishers. The political leanings of publishers will also be tracked to make sure that Samsung News remains neutral.
Users in the UK who already have the Samsung Free app installed will get an app update that replaces it with Samsung News. Those who don't have the app installed and now download the Samsung News app from the Galaxy Store.
