Samsung Foundry is almost ready to start making chips on its second-generation 2nm fabrication process, known as SF2P.

With that, the brand is actively seeking customers for SF2P from domestic and international markets, says a report from Korea.

Last month, Samsung signed a $16.5 billion deal with Tesla where the South Korean tech giant will make 2nm chips for the electric vehicle (EV) maker. These will be Tesla’s AI6 chips, which it will use in its future cars for full-self driving (FSD). Samsung will make them at its upcoming foundry in Taylor, Texas, USA. Elon Musk says that Samsung has agreed to let Tesla help optimise the manufacturing process.

A few days ago, Samsung also signed a deal with DeepX, where the South Korean tech giant will make 2nm chips for the AI semiconductor designing firm. More specifically, it will make the DX-M2, DeepX’s upcoming GenAI Accelerator.

Despite signing deal with two companies for 2nm chips, the brand is actively seeking for customers for the SF2P process. It suggests that the brand's capacity of making 2nm chips hasn't been fully utilised yet. According to the report, other companies who require AI semiconductors are also looking at Samsung’s SF2P process.

An industry insider said “SF2P is a process that determines the success or failure of Samsung Electronics' cutting-edge foundry process, and is also closely related to its own mobile AP (application processor), Exynos. The yield has not yet stabilized, but through continuous task execution, it will become more sophisticated in earnest in the second half of this year.”
