We have exciting news for Samsung smart monitor users. The recent Tizen 8 One UI update that Samsung released for select smart TVs from 2023 is reaching more devices. The company is now rolling out the firmware to select smart monitors.
For those of you who might not know, many Samsung smart monitors from the Odyssey, Smart Monitor, and ViewFinity lineups run Tizen OS and come with TV remotes. They are full-fledged smart devices and are compatible with the SmartThings platform.
These characteristics enable Samsung to offer a complete stand-alone experience that is unlike anything from other monitor OEMs.
It also means that smart monitors receive OS upgrades, similar to TVs relatively regularly. And the big Tizen 8 update is now rolling out.
At SDC24, Samsung confirmed that it wants to unify the mobile and smart home experiences through One UI. The first part of that plan is to release a One UI-themed Tizen 8 update for smart TVs and Smart Monitors.
The update first landed on select OLED and Neo QLED TVs and gradually made its way into more regions, including North America and Europe. Now, a community post on the official Samsung forums confirms that One UI is rolling out on the Smart Monitor series.
If you have a Samsung smart monitor powered by Tizen OS, you can check whether the new One UI-themed firmware update is available for your device by opening “All Settings,” navigating to “Support,” selecting “Software update,” and tapping “Update now.”
If this new update is anything like Tizen 8 for smart TVs — and it should be — then you will have many new upgrades and changes to look forward to, including smoother animations and a more responsive UI.
