Yesterday, at the Galaxy Unpacked event, people were expecting Samsung to unveil a Galaxy smartphone with a tri-folding display (rumoured to arrive as the Galaxy G Fold) alongside the other devices it launched, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Galaxy Watch 8, and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Well, the brand has finally broken its silence on the matter and revealed when it plans to launch the device.

According to Business Korea, Samsung held a press conference at a hotel in Brooklyn, New York after Galaxy Unpacked, where, Samsung Electronics DX Division’s Head, Roh Tae-Moon, revealed that the South Korean tech giant plans to release the tri-fold phone this year, meaning that it may arrive by December 2025. That’s not all though. He also said that the brand hasn’t decided a name for the device yet, and it will make that decision soon as the launch is near.

Roh’s exact words were “We are working hard with the goal of launching the tri-fold phone when its level of completion and usability are secured. We will be able to release the product within this year. You can look forward to it. We have not yet decided on the launch name for the tri-fold phone. Since the launch time is approaching, we will make a decision soon.”

This is the first time Samsung has spoken about the tri-folding phone publicly. Recently, Samsung's official animation for how to fold and unfold the tri-fold Galaxy phone was spotted in the brand's Android 16-based One UI 8. Unlike the only tri-fold phone on the market, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, the one from Samsung folds inwards from both sides.

At the moment, that is all the information we have about it. Hopefully, the brand will soon start benchmarking the device and getting it certified from various authorities to ready it for sale.
