Despite having at least a four-year lead over Chinese brands, Samsung seems to be losing ground in the foldable smartphone segment. Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi are offering better-specced foldable phones than Samsung. However, for its next flip phone, Xiaomi seems to have taken Samsung's lead.
The MIX Flip 2 could use an ultrawide camera instead of the telephoto camera found on the MIX Flip. That makes it similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
While some rumors suggested that Xiaomi will bring a triple-camera setup with the MIX Flip 2, a report from China now says that the company will stick to a dual-camera setup. It claims that Xiaomi is replacing the telephoto camera with an ultrawide camera for the MIX Flip 2.
The upcoming flip phone from Xiaomi will reportedly feature a 50MP primary camera (1/1.5-inch) and a 50MP ultrawide camera (1/2.76-inch). This is similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which has a 50MP primary rear camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to have a similar camera setup.
The MIX Flip 2 will reportedly feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 6.85-inch foldable OLED screen, and a 4-inch OLED cover screen. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to have similar screens: a 6.85-inch foldable OLED and a 4-inch cover OLED screen.
So, the MIX Flip 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely have a lot of similarities in terms of specifications. The MIX Flip 2 could have the upper hand in terms of battery capacity and charging, at least going by what the MIX Flip offered last year.
The story continues after our Galaxy Z Flip 6 video below.
While the MIX Flip lacked any form of dust or water resistance, the MIX Flip 2 could come with an IPX8 rating for water resistance. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has an IP48 rating for protection against solids and water. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 could come with the same or a slightly better resistance rating.
Samsung is also rumored to be launching the Galaxy Z Flip FE this year at a lower price tag than the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, how much lower it would be compared to the vanilla Galaxy Z Flip 7 remains to be seen.
