WhatsApp is the world's most popular instant messaging app, and it's not without a reason. It is available on almost all platforms natively, and it introduces several new features every year. Its upcoming feature could let you set your favorite songs as your status updates, thanks to Spotify integration.
A new report from WABetaInfo suggests that WhatsApp is internally testing a feature that would let you set your favorite songs as your status update on WhatsApp. This feature will depend on Spotify, though, as you would need to open your favorite music on the Spotify app and then use the sharing feature to set that track on your WhatsApp status update.
Besides the name of the track, album, and artist, WhatsApp users can also see the album cover. They can also tap the ‘Play on Spotify' shortcut to open the song on Spotify on their device. This is a great feature for both companies. It will increase users on Spotify's platform and offer more engagement on WhatsApp.
This feature was spotted in the latest beta version (25.8.10.72) of WhatsApp for iOS (iPhones). It is currently under testing and will likely be released to all WhatsApp users in the coming months. Almost all the features that are available on iOS are also released on the Android platform. So, it is likely that the feature will be released for Android users in the near future.
A similar feature already exists on Instagram, so WhatsApp is just playing catch-up.
