RIYADH — Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser affirmed that the company possesses the operational flexibility and logistical capabilities required to continue supplying its customers and managing severe disruptions. He said operations affected by disruptions can be restored within days, while the company is exploring the establishment of additional oil export routes and expanding its storage capacity outside the Kingdom.In an interview with Nikkei Asia of Japan, Nasser said Aramco has multiple options to meet customer needs, emphasizing that the company continues to supply oil and petroleum products to global markets despite the geopolitical turmoil facing the global energy sector.Aramco’s ability to sustain its operations is of particular importance to the global oil market, given the scale of Saudi production and the Kingdom’s pivotal role in international supplies.Saudi Arabia announced on September 12 the precautionary suspension of oil flows through the East-West pipeline after it was targeted in the Riyadh and Madinah regions. The pipeline, which has a design capacity of approximately 7 million barrels per day, had resumed pumping following its restart.Al-Nasser stated that Aramco is capable of managing any disruptions that may affect its operations and restoring activity within a few days. He noted that Aramco possesses the infrastructure and operational capabilities necessary to continue operating under challenging circumstances. Citing the 2019 drone attack on oil processing facilities, he said the company returned to full operation within 11 days.He noted that temporary disruptions to the company’s operations typically last “days, not weeks or months,” noting that the East-West pipeline system consists of multiple lines. This makes it difficult to shut down the entire system simultaneously and provides the company with the flexibility to redirect supplies.Al-Nasser said Aramco has multiple options for meeting customer demand, including the possibility of using the Sumed pipeline, which carries crude from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean via Egypt, in addition to other routes.He emphasized that the company continues to honor its commitments to customers under existing crude oil purchase agreements, including those in Japan, South Korea, China, and other markets. “Additional volumes that had been produced and offered in various markets outside existing sales agreements will not return to the market “until the situation improves,” he added.
