RIYADH — Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Al-Khorayef on Sunday launched eight new environmental industry activities, strengthening the sector’s role as an organized industrial pathway and a growing driver of investment. The launch is part of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources’ wider efforts to build a sustainable industrial economy that protects natural resources and supports environmental preservation. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN). It enables the issuance of environmental industry licenses through the Senaa’i platform. The newly introduced activities aim to improve resource efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, promote the adoption of environmental management technologies, expand waste treatment and recycling, and combat pollution. The eight activities include the recycling and reuse of municipal waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, hazardous waste, and oil and petroleum waste, in addition to the production of fertilizers from organic materials. They also cover the treatment of municipal waste through sanitary landfilling or incineration for purposes such as electricity generation, production of alternative fuels or biogas, and recovery of ash or other secondary products. In addition, the activities include primary sorting of municipal waste and metal scrap, classification of metals for use as industrial raw materials, and processing of waste and metal scrap for reuse across industrial value chains. The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s push to expand environmentally responsible industries as part of its broader economic diversification and sustainability goals.
