RIYADH — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League joined several Arab and Islamic countries and organizations in strongly condemning the Houthi terrorist attack targeting the holy city of Makkah.The OIC, which groups 57 Muslim countries, condemned the attacks against Makkah, saying they endangered civilians, violated the sanctity of holy sites and mosques and provoked the sentiments of Muslims around the world. Arab League Secretary General Nabil Fahmy condemned the attempted UAV attack on Makkah, following the Kingdom's interception and destruction of the hostile aircraft south of the city before it could breach the holy site's restricted airspace. Fahmy emphasized that compromising the sanctity of Islamic holy sites endangers the safety of citizens, residents, and pilgrims and constitutes a flagrant provocation to Muslims worldwide. He said the attack reflects a continued and dangerous escalation by the Houthi militia targeting Saudi civilian infrastructure, exacerbating regional tensions and undermining stability. He stressed the urgent need to halt this escalation, respect international law and the UN Charter, and adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015), which calls for an end to threats against neighboring states. Fahmy affirmed that the Kingdom's security is an essential pillar of regional stability and reiterated the Arab League's complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia and full support for all measures taken to defend its territory, citizens, and holy sites. He also commended the vigilance and efficiency of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces in thwarting the attack. Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi strongly condemned the treacherous terrorist attempt by the Houthi militia to target the holy city of Makkah with a UAV. He affirmed that this heinous Houthi criminal act represents an extremely dangerous escalation, a crossing of all lines and boundaries, and a blatant violation of the sanctity of the holiest place on earth and the Qiblah of Muslims. He noted that these terrorist attacks targeting Makkah once again expose an extremist approach that disregards the sanctity of holy sites and the safety of civilians. He stressed that the attacks require a firm and deterrent international stance to put an end to these violations and hold those responsible accountable. The GCC chief stressed that targeting Makkah, its sanctity and security is not an attack on Saudi Arabia alone, but an extremely dangerous provocation to the sentiments of Muslims around the world. He affirmed that targeting holy sites represents a dangerous level of escalation that cannot be tolerated. Albudaiwi affirmed that GCC countries stand united alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and that the security of the Kingdom and its holy sites is an integral part of the security of GCC countries. He renewed full support for all measures and steps taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its territory, holy sites, citizens and residents, and to deter anyone attempting to undermine its security and stability. The Muslim World League strongly condemned the attacks on Makkah, as well as continued Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. MWL Secretary General Sheikh Mohammed Al-Issa called on Islamic countries and the international community to condemn the attacks, saying they endangered Muslim lives and holy sites. Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad affirmed his country's full and steadfast support for Saudi Arabia's right to defend its territory and take all necessary measures to safeguard its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens. During his address to the UN Security Council, Ambassador Ahmad reiterated Islamabad's support for the Kingdom's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He also affirmed Saudi Arabia's right to take necessary measures to defend its territory and protect its citizens from threats and attacks. He warned of the risks posed by continued escalation, stressing that Houthi militia attacks threaten not only the Kingdom's security but also the security and stability of the wider region and the safety of international maritime shipping routes. The State of Qatar strongly condemned and denounced the Houthi militia's targeting of Makkah with a UAV, stressing that any attempt to violate the sanctity of Makkah and the Grand Mosque, the Qiblah of Muslims and the holiest place on earth, constitutes a disgraceful act of aggression. It described the attack as an extremely dangerous violation of all religious, moral, and humanitarian red lines, and a blatant provocation of the feelings of more than one billion Muslims around the world. In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the sanctity and security of holy sites and the safety of those visiting them must not be targeted, threatened, or exploited in conflicts. It warned that actions that could endanger Makkah and the holy sites constitute an extremely dangerous escalation and disregard for their great religious and spiritual significance in the hearts of all Muslims. The ministry expressed Qatar's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures and steps necessary to protect its security and territorial integrity, the Islamic holy sites, and pilgrims. It also expressed its full confidence in the Kingdom's ability to safeguard the security of the Two Holy Mosques and confront anything that could threaten their safety. The ministry reiterated Qatar's firm position categorically rejecting the targeting of civilians and holy sites, calling for respecting the sanctity of holy sites and keeping them away from the repercussions of conflicts and escalation in the region. Bahrain strongly condemned and denounced the attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, including an attempt to target Makkah with a UAV on Tuesday evening. The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. It also condemned the attack as a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the Grand Mosque and the holy sites. The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability and protect its citizens and residents, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. It stressed that Saudi Arabia's security and stability are an integral part of Bahrain's national security. The ministry reiterated Bahrain's call for the UN Security Council to uphold its responsibilities and take a firm stance to stop the repeated terrorist attacks targeting civilian and religious sites and terrorizing civilians in Saudi Arabia. It also called for those responsible to be held accountable, saying this would contribute to safeguarding regional and international security and stability and protecting holy sites. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Houthi militia's attempted UAV attack on Makkah, denouncing the cowardly act as a violation of the Qiblah's sanctity, a disregard for its religious status, and an affront to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.In a statement, the ministry affirmed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to safeguard Saudi sovereignty, protect the Two Holy Mosques, and preserve their sanctity. The ministry commended the vigilance of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces in thwarting the attack, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia's security is an integral part of the stability of Kuwait and the GCC. Lebanon condemned the attempted drone attack on the holy city of Makkah. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam denounced the attempt in the strongest terms, affirming Lebanon’s full solidarity with the Kingdom. The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants also condemned the attack. The Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian instructed mosque preachers in Lebanon to dedicate their Friday sermons to discussing the attempt and rejecting any violation of the sanctity of holy places. The Palestinian Presidency condemned the heinous UAV attack targeting Makkah, which the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and thwarted before the drone entered the holy city's airspace. It affirmed that the security of the Kingdom and the Two Holy Mosques is a red line and an integral part of Arab and Islamic national security. In a statement, the Palestinian Presidency said targeting the Qiblah of Muslims and a place held closest to their hearts constitutes a serious criminal act and a blatant violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. It added that such an attack threatens the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its citizens, residents, and pilgrims. The presidency emphasized that the State of Palestine stands with the Kingdom in confronting all threats to its security, sovereignty, and stability. The Muslim Council of Elders in Egypt strongly condemned the attacks directed at civilian targets in Saudi Arabia. In a statement, the council voiced its categorical rejection of these hostile acts, describing them as a flagrant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a direct threat to regional peace and stability. The council reaffirmed its complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia, underscoring its unwavering support for all measures the Kingdom undertakes to maintain its security and stability.
