NEW YORK — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York on Thursday as part of consultations under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.The meeting, held at the headquarters of Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, reviewed progress toward establishing the agreement’s general secretariat, committees and working groups, as well as preparations for them to begin their work.The three foreign ministers strongly condemned the attacks targeting Makkah and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.They praised the vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces and their ability to defend the Kingdom’s security, while reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s right to take measures it deems appropriate to defend its security in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.The ministers also discussed ongoing arrangements for an urgent meeting of the chiefs of staff of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye to examine ways of supporting the Kingdom under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.The agreement stipulates that an attack against any one of the parties constitutes an attack against all parties.The ministers also discussed the current situation in the region and stressed the importance of upholding the principles of international law, good-neighborly relations, mutual respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, as well as ensuring the security and freedom of maritime navigation.They renewed their determination to continue working toward sustainable peace and stability in the region, support efforts to de-escalate tensions and advance peaceful solutions to ongoing crises.
