RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has introduced the Work Interruption Service through the national unified recruitment platform Musaned as part of its initiative to improve contractual relationship between employers and domestic workers. This service is designed to enable individual employers to lawfully terminate a contractual relationship in cases where a domestic worker is absent from work, thereby ensuring clarity and safeguarding the rights of both parties. The service provides individual employers with access to two primary procedures: termination of contract due to work interruption and the labor mobility service. The ministry clarified that if a work contract is terminated due to a worker’s absence within the first two years of their entry into the Kingdom, the worker is required to complete final exit procedures within a period not exceeding 60 days. Failure to depart within this timeframe will constitute a violation of residency and labor regulations. If the domestic worker has resided in the Kingdom for more than two years, they must either obtain a final exit visa or transfer their services to a new employer within 60 days of the work interruption. Failure to regularize their status within this period will result in their classification as absent from work and in violation of the applicable laws and regulations. This service forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to regulate the recruitment sector, as well as to enhance the efficiency of contractual procedures, improve service quality, promote compliance and transparency, and protect the rights of all parties involved.
