RIYADH — In a new incident highlighting the extent of the lies, disinformation, and manipulation of misinformation practiced by the Houthi terrorist militia, another Houthi narrative has been debunked by the facts. An old Dubai fire video was circulated, falsely claiming to document the aftermath of an attack targeting Saudi oil facilities in Yanbu, according to Okaz newspaper. The video clip showing smoke and fire does not document a recent Houthi attack in Yanbu. The footage shows an unrelated past incident of an industrial fire. The incident exposes the terrorist militia’s attempt to exploit old images and videos to fabricate a narrative that contradicts reality. This coincided with Houthi claims regarding attacks on oil facilities in Yanbu. However, verification has shown that the circulated video is old, unrelated to Saudi Arabia, and dates back to a fire that occurred at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai five years ago. According to a Reuters’ investigation, the video dates back to July 2021 and documents a fire that broke out at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai following the explosion of a container aboard a ship. The Dubai Media Office published the footage at the time, explaining that it documented the fire at the port, with no injuries reported. The circulation of the video coincided with the Houthi group’s announcement on Saturday, Sept. 19 that it had targeted an Aramco facility in Yanbu, while the Saudi-led Coalition Supporting the legitimate government in Yemen announced that it had foiled attacks targeting several cities, including Yanbu. However, the circulating video does not document these events; rather, it dates back to an incident that occurred at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai approximately five years ago.
