RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced Monday that the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has been extended as authorities continue safety inspections following a series of Houthi attacks targeting the airport. The authority said the extension was necessary to complete procedures to verify the safety of airport facilities and ensure their operational readiness, in coordination with the relevant authorities. GACA did not specify when airport operations would resume. The announcement follows Sunday's attack on King Khalid International Airport, which killed a Pakistani resident and injured 11 others, according to an updated statement from GACA. The injured were immediately transported to hospitals for medical treatment, while authorities continued assessing damage to airport facilities. The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen said Sunday that an unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport. The coalition also announced that Saudi air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile near the airport. The latest attack came just one day after a deadly Houthi strike on the same airport Saturday killed 12 people and injured 309 others, according to GACA. The coalition described Saturday's attack as a war crime and vowed a firm response in accordance with international humanitarian law. Saudi authorities have been assessing damage and implementing safety measures following the attacks to ensure airport facilities are secure before operations resume.
