RIYADH — Saudi Arabia and Qatar stressed the need to intensify security and military cooperation and coordination, particularly in confronting regional and international challenges, during the fourth meeting of the Security and Military Committee of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council in Riyadh.Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif and Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani co-chaired the meeting on Thursday.Prince Abdulaziz said the committee’s meeting was held under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and reflected the strong relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar under the leadership of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.He said agreements reached during the eighth meeting of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council in Riyadh, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Sheikh Tamim, reflected the two countries’ close historical ties and supported cooperation across several areas, including security and defense.Prince Abdulaziz stressed the importance of redoubling efforts and strengthening joint coordination, particularly in addressing regional and international challenges, to advance security, stability and prosperity in both countries. The committee reviewed progress on joint initiatives and discussed ways to deepen security and military cooperation and continue implementing previously agreed initiatives.The two sides signed the minutes of the committee’s fourth meeting at the conclusion of the talks.Earlier, Prince Abdulaziz met Sheikh Khalifa in Riyadh, where they reviewed bilateral security cooperation and coordination and discussed ways to strengthen them, along with other issues of mutual interest.
