RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has issued a warning regarding several infant formula products produced by Nutricia-Danone under the Aptamil and Bebelac brands, following a voluntary notification from the company and a precautionary recall of specific batches. The recall was initiated due to potential contamination with Cereulide, a substance produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria that may pose a risk to infant health. The SFDA said the action comes as part of a voluntary precautionary recall and follows a comprehensive assessment of potential risks. It explained that exposure to Cereulide may cause symptoms within 30 minutes to six hours after consumption, including nausea, frequent vomiting and abdominal pain. These symptoms are generally short-term and typically last up to 24 hours. The authority clarified that no illnesses related to the affected products have been reported in the Kingdom to date.Consumers were strongly advised not to use the recalled products and to dispose of them immediately. The SFDA confirmed that it has coordinated with the company to withdraw the affected batches from the market and is directly overseeing the implementation of the recall. It added that detailed information regarding the specific products and batch numbers is available in the attached table. The SFDA reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring food safety and ensuring compliance with approved regulations, urging citizens and residents to report any food-related violations.
