WASHINGTON — Bipartisan members of the US Congress have honored Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa in recognition of the organization’s efforts to combat hatred and promote coexistence among religious communities.The tribute took place at the US Capitol, where Republican and Democratic lawmakers signed a certificate commending the MWL’s role in strengthening social cohesion and countering racism and intolerance that threaten the dignity and security of followers of different religions and ethnicities.Muslim World League Secretary General Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who also serves as president of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, described the recognition as an affirmation of Islamic values that call for peace and harmony across societies.Al-Issa said the MWL will continue its work to promote constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement among communities, stressing the importance of understanding diversity as a divine reality and addressing differences through awareness, wisdom and mutual respect rather than conflict.Leaders of the Muslim community in the United States who attended the ceremony described the recognition as a tribute to American Muslims as a whole, noting that it marked the first time such an honor has been extended at the Capitol.Several members of Congress spoke during the event, highlighting the MWL’s international initiatives to counter hate speech, challenge extremist narratives and foster dialogue between faiths.The MWL has expanded its global engagement in recent years through interfaith conferences, partnerships with international institutions and initiatives aimed at promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
