The fall is nearly upon us, and with it comes the return of football, with colleges around the country aiming to win a national championship. Some colleges have been more successful than others, so here is a list of the college football teams with the most national titles. It might come as a surprise, but the team with the most titles in history is the Yale Bulldogs, who captured 18 championships from 1874 to 1927. The Alabama Crimson Tide emerged as one of the most dominant teams under former head coach Nick Saban, collecting six titles since 2009 and 16 total in their history. Similar to their Ivy League rivals Yale, the Princeton Tigers won their titles in the late 18th to early 19th century, notching 15 in total. Despite not winning a championship since 1988, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have won 13 titles in their decorated history. The Michigan Wolverines, who boast the most wins in college football history, registered their tenth championship with their win in 2023.
