Google recently revealed how it is trying to make Android a better platform for content creators. It worked with Meta to make Android phones perform as well as iPhones when using the Instagram app. As part of that effort, Google is helping bring more creative and professional apps to Android and has now announced that Adobe Premiere Pro is coming soon to Android.
Last year, when Adobe launched Premiere for iOS and iPadOS, it said the professional video editing app was also in development for Android but did not provide a specific launch timeline. Google has now revealed that Adobe Premiere will launch soon for Android devices, which we assume includes both phones and tablets.
Adobe Premiere offers timeline-based multi-layer editing, video effects, and several advanced editing tools. On Android, the app will offer exclusive templates and effects for creating YouTube Shorts content. It is also expected to include AI-powered features using Adobe Firefly, such as generating stickers, extending backgrounds, and turning images into video clips.
Android 16 introduced support for Samsung's Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which is the most storage-efficient professional-grade video format, and Android 17 is extending support for it. Adobe Premiere could add support for APV videos.
Adobe Premiere will likely also be optimized for Android foldable phones, tablets, and the recently announced Googlebook laptops. Samsung is reportedly developing Android-based Galaxy laptops as well, and Premiere would be a great addition to those devices.
