The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone. It rivals the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is Samsung's eighth-generation foldable. While the iPhone Duo brings a fresh take on software design and user experience, alongside a less visible crease on the folding screen and an IP68 rating, it misses out on a few advanced camera features available on Samsung's foldable.
The iPhone Duo has 48MP + 48MP dual rear cameras, a 12MP front-facing camera on the cover screen, and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 50MP + 50MP dual-camera setup on the rear and two 10MP selfie cameras, with the inner selfie camera featuring a wider field of view than the outer camera.
While their camera specs are similar, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers several capabilities the iPhone Duo doesn't.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 supports the APV codec, which allows for higher-quality video recording and more flexible post-production capabilities.
Apple's ProRes video codec, which is available on the cheaper iPhone 18 Pro series, is missing from the iPhone Duo.
The iPhone Duo lacks Apple Log support, which means you cannot record videos with a flat color profile to be color-corrected later.
In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 allows recording videos in Log format and even offers onboard LUTs for faster color correction. Log recording works at all video resolutions, including 8K, and also works with the APV codec.
While Apple introduced pro-grade manual controls to the stock Camera app on its new iPhones, the iPhone Duo does not support them for either photos or videos.
Samsung, on the other hand, offers granular manual controls in the Galaxy Z Fold 8's stock Camera app through a Pro mode for both photos and videos. You can change settings like ISO and shutter speed using the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The Fold 8 also supports capturing RAW files, something Apple doesn't offer on its foldable.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 can record 8K 30fps videos using its primary and ultrawide cameras. The iPhone Duo, just like every other iPhone launched to date, lacks 8K recording capabilities.
The iPhone Duo cannot record videos directly to external storage using the stock camera app. Apple only allows recording videos directly to external storage on its Pro iPhones, and only when recording in the Apple ProRes format.
Samsung has no such limitations. On the Galaxy Z Fold 8, even standard videos can be saved directly to external storage.
