When it comes to AI voice assistants on smartphones and tablets, Samsung is using Google Gemini front and center as has been evident from the recent launches. However, the company also seems to be quietly upgrading its in-house developed Bixby.
Earlier this week, we reported that Samsung has updated Bixby with the ability to use custom wake word (on the Galaxy S25 series), and now, the brand has added support for a new language to the AI assistant, and that’s Japanese. Let’s take a look.
Earlier today, when we opened the Bixby app on our Galaxy S25+, we came across a new notification from Samsung where the company announced that Bixby now supports the Japanese language. You can check it out in the screenshot below.
Titled “Bixby Launches Japanese Language Support,” the alert reads “Thank you very much for for using Bixby. Now you can also use Bixby in Japanese language. Through this language expansion, Japanese users can experience content and services specific to the Japanese language while also using the other existing features of Bixby. Thanks. Bixby Operating Team.”
The story continues after the video…
With that, Bixby now supports a total of twelve languages, with the other eleven being Deutsch (Deutschland), English (India), English (United Kingdom), English (United States), Espanol (Espana), Espanol (Latinoamerica), Francais (France), Italiano (Italia), Portugues (Brasil), Korean (Republic of Korea), and Simplified Chinese (China), as you can see in the screenshot below.
We quickly took out our Galaxy S23 to see if Bixby offers support for Japanese on it or not and unfortunately, it doesn't. We neither saw a notification or mention of Japanese in the language menu. So, it looks like, for now, the feature is either limited to the Galaxy S25 series or Android 15 (One UI 7.0). That being said, we expect Samsung to eventually roll it out to other devices.
