A couple of weeks ago, Samsung unveiled its first XR headset. It is the first XR headset to run Android XR and is internally called ‘Project Moohan.' But what will be its final name? Could its name have a Nintendo Switch connection?
The first XR headset from Samsung could feature ‘Switch' branding. This information comes through the company's new trademark application. As spotted by GalaxyClub, Samsung filed for a trademark for the term ‘Samsung Switch' with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the UK's Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO).
Samsung's trademark application mentions the following types of devices:
It isn't clear whether the Switch is the name of a particular model or the branding for Samsung's complete lineup of AR/VR/XR glasses and headsets. Since the trademark application mentions several types of such devices, we assume that Samsung will use the Switch branding for the entire lineup.
Unless Nintendo has a problem with Samsung's Switch branding, Switch could be a pretty cool-sounding name for AR/VR/XR glasses and headsets. It could mean switching between a device's AR, MR, and VR modes.
The South Korean firm could launch its first XR headset, running Android XR, later this year. It features a high-resolution Micro OLED/OLEDoS screen, several cameras and sensors, and hand tracking for UI navigation. It features Google's Gemini AI assistant.
