Samsung's next-generation premium chip, the Exynos 2700, has entered mass production in anticipation of the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. According to Korean media, Samsung has also increased the Exynos 2700 production volume by more than 10% compared with the previous-generation chip.

If you're up to date with the latest Galaxy S27 leaks, you can probably guess why Samsung intends to manufacture the Exynos 2700 chip in greater quantities: The Galaxy S27 series is said to consist of four models at launch instead of three. The fourth model is tentatively named the Galaxy S27 Pro.

Samsung may follow a familiar launch strategy for the Galaxy S27 series. The base, Plus, and Pro models may be equipped with the Exynos 2700 chip globally, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra could adopt a flagship Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, at least in some regions.

However, this decision hasn't been set in stone as of this writing, and the latest report says Samsung is internally divided about the Galaxy S27 Ultra and its chip choice.

On the one hand, Samsung System LSI, which is responsible for designing and supplying the Exynos chip, wants the Galaxy S27 Ultra to adopt the Exynos 2700 chip.

On the other hand, Samsung MX, i.e., the mobile division, is not convinced it should use the Exynos 2700 chip for the Galaxy S27 Ultra exclusively or at all. MX is still in the selection process while considering multiple factors like performance, cooling, and costs.

For reference, the Galaxy S26 and S26+ feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 chip in the USA, Canada, Japan, and China, while the rest of the world gets the Exynos 2600 variants. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, however, is equipped exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip globally.

Next year, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may revert to a dual-chip strategy, but nothing has been set in stone yet. Samsung MX is still weighing the pros and cons, but at the very least, the Exynos 2700 chip sounds promising.

Samsung LSI's latest creation reportedly scored 9.5% higher in Geekbench 6 internal multi-core benchmarks than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip from Qualcomm. This could explain the LSI division's apparent confidence in the chip. The Exynos 2700 is being manufactured on Samsung Foundry's 2nm SF2P process.

Do keep in mind that early benchmark tests for unreleased chips rarely tell the complete story. The performance gap could look very different once the Exynos 2700 goes official. Besides, the Exynos 2700 still appears to be lagging behind the Snapdragon alternative in single-core benchmarks.

Whatever future Samsung MX ultimately decides for the Galaxy S27 series is to be determined. For now, the Exynos 2700 chip sounds promising enough. Mass production is underway and LSI may ship more chips thanks to the addition of the Pro model. Meanwhile, Samsung MX should soon make a decision about the next-gen Ultra phone and its chip. We'll let you know when more details surface.
