Samsung has shut down its in-house Messages app for Galaxy devices in select countries, forcing users to switch to Google Messages. While Google's app hasn't been as feature-rich as Samsung's, the company is constantly adding new features to it. Now, it appears to be making it easier to search for messages on Galaxy devices.

The latest beta version of Google Messages (version 20260921) is preparing to integrate with Samsung's Finder app, a tool that lets users search for information across apps installed on their Galaxy phones and tablets. Although Android Authority has spotted code referencing the new integration, the feature is not live yet and appears under development.

Currently, Google Messages doesn't appear in the “Apps to search in” section of the Samsung Finder app's settings menu. Once Google officially rolls out the integration, the app will populate in that list.

Google is also refining the search interface within the Messages app itself. Right now, the search bar sits at the top of the screen, and tapping it opens a larger search bar with filters for images, links, places, videos, and other shared items. In the upcoming design, this expanded search box moves to the bottom of the screen to improve one-handed reachability.

Additionally, the company recently introduced a revamped long-press menu for individual messages. When you long-press a text in a chat thread, options to reply, copy, forward, star, delete, and select multiple messages now appear below it, while quick emoji reactions float above.
