A few days ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy A05s in India, and now, the company is ready to launch a slightly cheaper version of that phone: Galaxy A05. Ahead of the phone's official announcement, its features and possible pricing have leaked, leaving very little to the imagination.
The Galaxy A05 will be slightly pricier than its predecessor, the Galaxy A04. In India, the Galaxy A05 will be priced at INR 12,499 ($150) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while the version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost INR 14,999 ($180). The device will be sold in three colors: Black, Green, and White. The phone could come running Android 13 (One UI 5.1) and get two years of OS updates and four years of security updates.
According to tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, the Galaxy A05 will feature a 6.7-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. That's a lower resolution and lower refresh rate compared to the Galaxy A05s. The upcoming smartphone will reportedly come equipped with the MediaTek Heio G85 processor, which is a 4G LTE-only chip, which means it won't have 5G connectivity. Other connectivity features of the phone could include a dual-SIM card slot, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Leaked specifications of the phone also reveal the possibility of the phone featuring a 50MP primary camera on the rear, joined with a 2MP macro camera. On the front, it could have an 8MP selfie camera. There are no details about its video recording capabilities, but if we were to guess, the phone might top out at 1080p 60fps video recording. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.
Since the Galaxy A05 will run Android 13-based One UI 5.1 out of the box, the next big update for the device will be Android 14-based One UI 6.0. You can watch all the new features and changes that One UI 6.0 brings in our in-depth video below. The update should be available by the end of the year or in early 2024.
Author's Note: The Galaxy A05 will most likely launch in India in the next couple of weeks. Looking at the leaked specifications of the phone, it brings a more powerful processor, higher memory and storage, and a massive improvement to the rear camera. The phone misses out on a high-refresh-rate screen, though, and I would have liked to see a 90Hz refresh rate on this phone, especially after looking at its leaked pricing. Faster charging is a welcome upgrade, though, and the phone should be able to charge fully in around an hour.
However, I would still advise consumers to pay a little higher and get the Galaxy A05s or the Galaxy A14 5G if they can, as these phones have much better performance, 5G connectivity, and better cameras.
