The Galaxy A16 5G was expected to launch soon, and while Samsung doesn't appear to have made an official announcement, the phone is now listed on its website in the Netherlands. The price isn't listed yet, but we do get confirmation that the A16 5G will get updates for six years!
Flagship Galaxy phones launched in 2024 are eligible for seven years of Android OS upgrades and security updates, and it looks like Samsung has settled on providing six years of updates for anything that isn't a flagship. The A16 5G comes with Android 14 out of the box, so it's guaranteed to make it to Android 20, or whatever version of Android is available in 2030.
The Galaxy A16 5G is also officially rated for dust and water resistance. It has an IP54 certification, which isn't as good as the IP67 or IP68 rating found on costlier mid-range Samsung phones and all of the company's flagships but is impressive for a lower-end device like the Galaxy A16 5G.
