Samsung hasn't used the “Prime” name in years, but the company is seemingly bringing it back from the dead in India. Well, either that or the company is planning a collaboration with Amazon around the Galaxy M15 5G.
Long story short, a new Galaxy M15 5G Prime phone appeared on Samsung's online shop in India. It is, in fact, the same Galaxy M15 5G as before, rocking 8GB of RAM. The only difference is that it is called ‘Prime,' and nobody is quite sure why.
For those of you who may have forgotten or weren't Samsung fans nearly a decade ago, Samsung used to sell phones under the ‘Galaxy J Prime' brand, and the last one to hit the market was the Galaxy J7 Prime 2, all the way back in 2018.
Samsung discontinued the J and J Prime lineups in its quest to simplify its low and mid-range lineups, so it seems counter-intuitive to see the Prime moniker making a comeback through a phone that already exists, i.e., the Galaxy M15 5G. It is nothing but confusing and goes against Samsung's previous efforts for more clarity.
However, there might be another reason why Samsung is bringing back this moniker. It might have nothing to do with the old J Prime series and everything to do with Amazon — a company that is also using the Prime name for branding.
The story continues after the video
Samsung sold a Prime Edition phone before, and it happened after the J Prime series was discontinued. In 2021, Samsung announced the Galaxy M32 Prime Edition in partnership with Amazon India. And it was pretty much the same as the regular Galaxy M32 — just like this Galaxy M15 5G Prime looks the same as the non-Prime M15 model.
So, we might be looking at a Samsung-Amazon collaboration, but details, for now, are scarce. As of this writing, the regular Galaxy M15 is available for purchase both at Samsung and Amazon India. However, the Galaxy M15 5G Prime is listed only at Samsung and isn't yet in stock. So, it's not entirely clear what Samsung might have in store for this device, but we'll keep you posted if something unusual transpires.
Thanks for the tip
