Smart rings are new territory for Samsung and its fans. The Galaxy Ring, released a few months ago, is Samsung's first device of this kind, and for many people, it is their first smart ring.
With new experiences come new unknowns. Sometimes, your expectations can be challenged by a new device category.
For example, here is something that might seem unusual to someone who has never worn a smart ring but has worn a regular ring before:
The Galaxy Ring can feel warm to the touch.
In our experience, this barely or never happens. But it is something that can occur, Samsung claims. Here is why, and here is what you should do if it happens to you.
At a base level, the Galaxy Ring is like many other smart devices, except it doesn't have a screen. It has microchips and a battery, along with biometric sensors. Even though these components are miniaturized, they can still generate heat.
Samsung says the Galaxy Ring can feel warm from time to time, especially when using a feature that requires more battery power or a feature that runs for an extended period.
The story continues after the video
Thankfully, Samsung says this is normal behavior and “Should not affect your ring's performance or lifespan.”
However, Samsung adds that if the ring overheats or “Feels warm for a prolonged period of time,” you should remove it and stop using it for a while.
Finally, if your Galaxy Ring continues to overheat, something's probably not right. Samsung says you should contact support and set up service.
As we mentioned earlier, in our experience, the Galaxy Ring never or rarely feels warm. Yours will likely exhibit a similar behavior as ours, but if it does heat up, now you know why and what to do about it.
