Following a brief pause after the initial roll out on April 7, Samsung has resumed the One UI 7 release for eligible devices. Last year's flagships are getting the update in the first phone with additional compatible devices set to receive it in the coming weeks.
The Galaxy S22 will receive One UI 7 as well. It was expected that some features may not come to older devices. A video has now emerged showing that One UI 7 on the Galaxy S22 won't bring many of the new AI features that were introduced with the Galaxy S25 series which had One UI 7 straight out of the box.
A video has been posted on Reddit showing One UI 7 running on a Galaxy S22+ through the Remote Test Lab. It's an emulator for developers to test their apps on simulated Samsung devices. Someone got it to run One UI 7 on the Galaxy S22+.
The poster mentions that none of the new Galaxy AI features present on the Galaxy S25 Ultra are trickling down to this device. We already know that the Now Brief is being kept exclusive to this year's flagship, but even the Now Bar seems to have been toned down for the older flagship.
The Galaxy S25's new Galaxy AI features include Audio Eraser, which lets you identify and remove six kinds of noises and audio from videos. Drawing Assist got a new UI with two new generative drawing styles. The Now Brief brings up relevant information to provide users a summary of their day at different times. A few other minor AI features seem to be missing as well.
Samsung introduced Now Bar with One UI 7, a dynamic UI element that displays information and controls relevant to what the user is doing on the device. This video of One UI 7 on a Galaxy S22+ makes it seem that the Now Bar only brings media playback control to the device.
So it appears that Galaxy S22 owners don't have much to look forward to in terms of new AI features, but they will get all of the cosmetic upgrades that One UI 7 brings. As for when the Galaxy S22 One UI 7 update will be released, a recent roadmap from Samsung reveals that this series will get the update at some point next month.
