Last month, we learned that Samsung could update Galaxy smartphones to offer people the ability to summon Google Gemini by pressing and holding the power/side button. Well, that feature has finally arrived with the brand's latest flagship lineup of smartphones, the Galaxy S25 series. Let’s take a look.
On Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, when you press and hold the power button, these smartphones bring up Google Gemini. Older Samsung phones give you the option to either access the power menu or Bixby by pressing and holding the side button. To access Gemini on older Galaxy phones, you will have to say “Hey Google” or open the Gemini app.
Check out our hands-on video of the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ below.
In the press release about the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, the company says “Just press and hold the side button to activate Gemini and perform seamless interaction across Samsung and Google apps, plus third-party apps such as Spotify. For example, find your favorite sports team’s season schedule and add it to Samsung Calendar – with a single command.”
Of course, the new smartphones also give you the option to customize the power button to access the power menu and Bixby. However, by default, they summon Gemini, making accessing it easier than on older phones. Samsung could offer this feature to its older Galaxy devices with a software update.
