Samsung has just launched its new flagship phones. All three devices in the lineup — Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra — bring amazing new features. However, equipping them with cutting-edge features wasn’t the brand’s only goal. It has also taken many steps to make these devices sustainable.

Galaxy S25's battery uses recycled cobalt from older Galaxy phones

Samsung says that every component of the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ uses at least one recycled material, which is something that the brand is doing for the first time. The metal frame of these smartphones uses recycled armor aluminum.

Just like the Galaxy S24 series, the new phones have 50% recycled cobalt in their batteries. What’s new, however, is that the recycled cobalt comes from previous Galaxy devices and batteries discarded during the manufacturing process.

In the press release, the tech giant says “Samsung goes through multiple stages with its like-minded partners, from extracting cobalt from used batteries to re-using the recycled cobalt for the batteries of Galaxy S25.” However, using recycled materials isn’t the only way the South Korean tech giant is making the Galaxy S25 series more sustainable.

Galaxy S25 to get seven years of OS and security updates

The company will also offer the new devices with seven new versions of Android and security updates for seven years. That will make people hold onto their devices for longer, reducing the number of times they change their phones, which reduces the impact on the environment. These changes will help Samsung achieve its net zero carbon emission goals.
