While Samsung's Exynos chips have become a lot faster and more power-efficient over the years, they still haven't matched their MediaTek and Snapdragon counterparts in cellular modem efficiency. However, the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S28 series could finally bring those much-needed improvements.
A report from The Elec claims that Samsung will use the M2700 5G modem in the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ variants powered by the Exynos 2700 chip. This new modem will rely on the same 4nm manufacturing process as the Shannon 5410 modem found in the Galaxy S26 series, but it offers improved power efficiency, faster data transfer speeds, and a 4% smaller chip area due to optical shrinking.
The new modem is also said to feature the 3GPP Release 18 standard, which is an upgrade over the Release 17 standard used in the Galaxy S26 series, alongside upgraded satellite communication (NTN) capabilities.

Samsung is reportedly reorganizing its modem lineup under the new “M series” naming convention, retiring the old Shannon branding. Based on internal testing by Samsung's Mobile Experience (MX) division, the M2700 modem has already received highly favorable results.
The M2800 modem designed for the Galaxy S28 series reportedly uses Samsung Foundry's 2nm process node and will launch in 2028. Thanks to this major upgrade in the fabrication process, it is expected to deliver even more significant improvements in power efficiency.
So, all Galaxy S28 series phones that will use the Exynos 2800 processor and the M2800 5G modem will offer even longer battery life when they are used outdoors or outside the reach of a home or office Wi-Fi network.
