Samsung is rolling out a new update for the Galaxy Watch FE in the USA, or at least Verizon is. The new firmware started rolling out earlier this week, and it's unclear whether the same update is out for the Galaxy Watch FE on other networks or for the Wi-Fi-only model.
As far as Verizon's Galaxy Watch FE goes, the update carries firmware version R866USQS1AYE9 and includes the May 2025 security patch. The changelog only mentions improved security.
This is the second big system update Verizon released for the Galaxy Watch FE to date. However, a much bigger firmware update is expected to land on the Galaxy Watch FE before the end of the year.
Specifically, Samsung has announced that it will soon open the One UI 8 Watch beta program in the USA, which will lead to a public release later in 2025.
Samsung said the beta update will be available for the Galaxy Watch 5 and later models. This technically means the Galaxy Watch FE should be included, even though it is essentially a rebranded 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 released in 2024.
As for this new update available through Verizon, you should be able to download it on your Galaxy Watch FE in the USA by opening the Wearable app on your connected phone, selecting the Watch FE, accessing Watch settings, selecting Watch software update, and tapping Download and install.
If you have the auto-update option enabled, this update may have even already been installed on your Galaxy Watch FE overnight. You can go to About watch and check if your current firmware version matches R866USQS1AYE9.
Lastly, if you are in the market for a relatively cheap watch in the USA, the Galaxy Watch FE 4G is presently available at a $50 no-trade-in discount. You can buy it for $199 from Samsung. Hit the button below for more details.
