Samsung did not introduce display brightness upgrades with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and it may follow a similar approach with its upcoming foldable phones. A new report suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could use the same display material as their predecessors.

Samsung Display’s latest OLED material, known as M14, is used in many recently launched high-end phones, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, it may not be used in the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Wide Fold (tentative name). According to a report from ETNews, Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones will continue to use OLED panels that use the older M13 material.

M13 is the same organic material used in OLED panels featured in devices such as the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Since OLED technology has already reached a high level of performance, display panel makers are no longer introducing newer materials every year. As a result, Samsung appears to be sticking with the M13 material for its upcoming foldable devices.

However, this does not necessarily mean there will be no display improvements. Even with the same organic material, color accuracy and power efficiency could be improved. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a nearly crease-free foldable display to compete with Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone. Improvements in durability and reflectivity are also possible.
